Team

This team leads TRIGGER at Birkbeck: it is in charge of planning, coordinating and monitoring the implementation of the different activities, and also of undertaking specific tasks within each activity. Furthermore, the team liaises regularly with TRIGGER project partners.

  • Helen Lawton Smith, principal investigator, Professor of Entrepreneurship at Birkbeck, she is specialised in studies of innovation and entrepreneurship in both high-tech and traditional sectors in the UK, Canada, France and Belgium, with a particular interest in university-industry interaction;
  • Viviana Meschitti, research fellow, holds a PhD in Communication Science with a focus on team learning, and has expertise in mentoring for women researchers thanks to its previous engagement in the Swiss Federal Programme “Equal Opportunity at Universities”. She is leading TRIGGER research activities, the mentoring programme, and the teaching module for PhD students;
  • Mark Panton, project administrator, PhD student at the School of BEI, who recently passed his viva and holds an MSc.in Sport Management.  Mark can be contacted on mpanto01@mail.bbk.ac.uk

Consultants

  • Andrew Atter, internationally recognized change expert with project experience in 26 countries around the world. He has specialized in mentoring and coaching women at Board level and for two years conducted the ‘Successful Women In Management’ programme for the American Chamber of Commerce in Poland. He will be in charge of the Development Centres.
  • Henry Etzkowitz, Senior Researcher, Human Sciences and Technologies Advanced Research Institute, Stanford University. He is Principal Investigator of several studies of women in science and technology sponsored by the US National Science Foundation and the European Union’s Science and Society Programme. He is co-author of Athena Unbound: The Advancement of Women in Science and Technology (Cambridge University Press, 2000) and Gender Dynamics of Science and Technology. He is President of the Triple Helix Association and co-founder of its international conference series which has a significant gender component.
  • Colette Henry, Head of Department of Business Studies at Dundalk Institute of Technology, Ireland, and Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at The Arctic University of Norway, Tromsø. Prior to this, Colette held the Norbrook Chair in Business & Enterprise at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), University of London. She is also a Visiting Professor at Birmingham City University (UK).
  • Jeanne Le Roux is an internationally experienced Entrepreneur, Mentor and Executive Coach. Her specialities are People Management, Entrepreneurship and People Innovation. She is currently part of TRIGGER external advisory board and module leader for TRIGGER 3.4.1 action (Gender and Career Development Programme), supporting the advancement of female scientific careers. Jeanne is also part of the Steering Committee of the Tech Talent Charter which outlines a series of key measures which aim to encourage organisations to think differently to encourage and support a more diverse tech workforce. Professionally she helps start-ups get their people management right.
