Opened in late 2001, the Bellas Artes Museum is a wonderful addition to the contemporary art scene in Cuba. The building itself is a completely remodelled warehouse that is contemporary in architectural style and it was designed for the display of art of all media. The ground floor has a large open atrium which has contemporary sculptures in wood, stone and metal on display by Cuban artists. The contemporary arts section of the museum is devoted to the work of the generation of artists who created work during and after the revolution.
