Introduction
Houston Stewart Chamberlain was a British author of books on natural science and political philosophy. Born in 1855, Chamberlain’s 2-volume work, The Foundations of the Nineteenth Century, was published in 1900. It became one of the key texts for the pan-Germanic movement of the early 20th century and, later, heavily influenced the anti-Semitism of Nazi racial philosophy, positing as it does a struggle for supremacy between the cultured and heroic Germanic race, and the ruthless, threatening Jewish race. Chamberlain died in 1927, having become a major influence on, and personal acquaintance of, Adolf Hitler.
