Chao-Yo Cheng is a Lecturer in Quantitative Social Research at Birkbeck’s School of Social Sciences. He is also the Director of Birkbeck’s Postgraduate Social Research Programmes. His work broadly concerns the political economy of central-local relations and local governance in developing nations. Combining different computational, quantitative and qualitative methods, his research interrogates the institutional design and policy foundations of inter-group relations, nation-state building and socio-economic development in multi-ethnic societies.
