Presentation of the Palgrave Handbook of Social Sustainability in Business Education to the select diplomats at the UN, New York, May 31 2024

The UN Sustainable Development Goals is a global strategy that should be implemented in business, education, and society to ensure environmental, social and economic sustainability globally by joint efforts of various stakeholders. The edited handbook, The Palgrave Handbook of Social Sustainability in Business Education, gathers teaching innovations from every continent in the world showcasing how innovative educators are implementing UN SDGs concerning the under-researched area of social sustainability in the context of business and business education.

UN Event Highlights: Presentation at the United Nations

The global significance of this book has been demonstrated by the presentation of the book to the select diplomats at the UN in New York by one of the co-editors Ausrine Silenskyte, University of Vaasa researcher and programme manager.

The event held on May 31st was organised by the Permanent Mission of Lithuania and co-hosted by the Permanent missions of the Bahamas, Botswana, Canada and Lithuania to the United Nations, together with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA).

Contributions from Vilnius University

Dr. Jurgita Butkeviciene Assistant Professor at Vilnius University Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, who was also present, has contributed several chapters to this publication.

Together with Professor Helen Lawton Smith from the University of London, Jurgita Butkevičienė published a chapter in the book on an inclusive entrepreneurial education system, also mentioning practices from Vilnius University. This topic was particularly well-received, especially in the context of the current geopolitical situation.

The event was attended by the esteemed ambassadors to the UN, scholars and other participants who participated in a meaningful discussion on the social sustainability issues.

On June 5th the book editors and contributors shared their insights on social sustainability in business in a virtual book launch.
