Visual studies is a dynamic subject area that draws on the critical traditions of various disciplines concerned with the production, circulation and reception of visual images and artifacts, with ‘ways of seeing’, and with the relational identities these call forth. The Centre aims to bring these perspectives into productive – and innovative – dialogue, both in the specific context of the Latin American and Iberian image-world and beyond.
Areas of research expertise include:
- Film studies
- Museum studies
- Cultural geography
- Popular and counter-cultural forms
- Early modern and colonial iconography
- Urban studies
- History of photography
- Material culture
