Birkbeck Public Engagement Awards make the news of the month for March! [00:27]
A year-long professional development programme for researchers with a passion for public engagement. The programme creates a challenging but supportive environment for delegates to reflect upon what it means to be an engaged researcher, and to explore the quality and value of engagement. It also supports participants to develop the skills and experience to work with others and improve the impact and relevance of their research.

Follow-on Funding for Impact and Engagement supports innovative and creative engagements with new audiences and user communities which stimulate pathways to impact. Funds will be awarded for knowledge exchange, public engagement, active dissemination and commercialisation activities.

The National Forum for Public Engagement with STEM is conducting a survey of all those that work in Public Engagement with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). The survey will take about 20 minutes to complete. It is being delivered by the NCCPE acting as secretariat to the National Forum. The purpose of the survey is to:
Nesta’s Centre for Collective Intelligence Design is awarding grants of up to £20,000 for innovative ideas to help generate evidence about how collective intelligence can be designed and applied for social impact. The project should include using new digital technologies and methods for enabling collective intelligence at scale, e.g. through deliberation, observation, prediction or idea creation, etc.

Dr Sophie Hope, Lecturer in Arts Management, attended the Engaged Practice Symposium led by Birkbeck’s Public Engagement team. She shares her experiences of the day, meeting colleagues from different subject areas and their discussions about engaging different audiences with their research.
Applications are open for two-year fellowships for researchers to be seconded into the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (London) to work alongside, advise and influence policymakers.

Photographers and other image makers from all disciplines are invited to enter the Wellcome Photography Prize, which celebrates compelling imagery that captures stories of health, medicine and science. They are looking for entries that can captivate people with stories of science and medicine, and start conversations about some of the health challenges humanity faces today.
