Modelling Standard

Modelling Standard is the first collaborative project of Mexican artists Jorge Satorre and Erick Beltrán. The artists take the methodology used by microhistorical studies as a departure point. Concepts which are inherent to microhistory is used as a permanent strategy to reorganize and reactivate seemingly disconnected elements which refer to personal experiences and popular culture. This turns into a visual diagram depicting a series of questions based on personal subjectivity, but aiming to propose definitions framed within a more general description of reality. These diagrams are translating machines to transport the historiographic and sociological realms into the territory of artistic practice.

The artists

Erick Beltrán is interested in exploring the ideological and conceptual mechanism behind the edition and distribution of information. Working in different media, his works often function as diagrams which seek to explain complex relationships between heterogeneous elements.

Jorge Satorre revisits past stories and events and filters his research outcomes through his personal experience using drawing as a narrative resource and a tool for the recovery of memory.
