Article on the Stern review

Nicholas Stern’s review of the Research Excellence Framework praises the introduction of impact assessment into the 2014 exercise. Impact, it argues, “is clearly one of the success stories of REF 2014”, revealing the social and economic contribution of UK research and helping to build a “culture of wider engagement” among academics and institutions.

In an article on www.researchprofessional.com, Federica Rossi and Ainurul Rosli say that by concentrating on what gets assessed, rather than how it is assessed, the Stern review sidesteps some thorny issues.
