ASSC welcomes guest speaker Fran Edgerley (Assemble)

When: Thursday 18 Nov 2021, 6.30pm
Join online via Microsoft Teams

In this talk, Fran will present and discuss the start of a new social resource centre in Princelet St, just off Brick Lane, London. The project, currently being led by the design group Assemble in a semi de/reconstructed Georgian house, seeks to embody spatial justice whilst also supporting those affected by and working towards it. Now owned by the Edith Maryon Foundation, a Swiss organisation, whose mission is to remove land and property from market speculation, the house offers an opportunity to counter the prevailing forces of financialisation. 25 Princelet St, was previously lived in by Annetta Pedretti, and the process building the project draws on the interconnected landscape of work and ideas she developed in the house before passing away in 2018, including construction craft, local campaigning and cybernetics.

Fran Edgerley is a partner of the architecture and design collective Assemble, with whom they work to look critically at the processes producing our built environment. Fran’s work is focused on the possibilities in collective and co-operative relations created by different social, economic and architectural structures. She is currently working to develop a new social centre in London as a resource to challenge the commodification of land and property. Over the past year she has also been laying the groundwork for a new organisation committed to researching the invisible structures and dispositions that produce and are reproduced by our social and physical architectures.
